Overview
Cape Town is the capital of South Africa, in Western Cape. About 4.8 million people live in the city proper, making it the 2nd largest city of South Africa in our atlas.
It lies at 33.93° S, 18.42° E, about 25 m (82 ft) above sea level, and keeps time on the Africa/Johannesburg time zone.

Climate
Cape Town has a Mediterranean (warm summer) climate (Köppen Csb). The warmest month is usually Feb, with average highs near 22°C (72°F); the coolest nights come in Jul at about 13°C (55°F). Around 489 mm (19 in) of rain and snow falls in a typical year, most of it in Jun.
