Overview
Istanbul is a city in Türkiye. About 15.7 million people live in the city proper, making it the 1st largest city of Türkiye in our atlas.
It lies at 41.01° N, 28.95° E, about 39 m (128 ft) above sea level, and keeps time on the Europe/Istanbul time zone.

Climate
Istanbul has a Mediterranean (hot summer) climate (Köppen Csa). The warmest month is usually Aug, with average highs near 29°C (84°F); the coolest nights come in Jan at about 4°C (38°F). Around 624 mm (25 in) of rain and snow falls in a typical year, most of it in Dec.
